Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa has said his country will do its utmost to ease the current tension in the East Sea.
Speaking on the sidelines of the regional conference on the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) in Jakarta on May 19, Natalegawa said he has held talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on the issue.
He underlined the significance of exchanging information to stabilise the situation and called on all parties concerned to restrain themselves and respect international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
He affirmed that it is necessary to resolve the dispute through peaceful means and on the basis of cooperation to bring the East Sea issue under control.-VNA
