Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesian police on March 10 said that the anti-terror squad Densus 88 arrested six alleged terrorists who were plotting attacks against police stations and banks in Tolitoli region of Central Sulawesi province.

Spokesperson of the provincial police headquarters Hari Suprapto said the alleged terrorists were detained in Tolitoli police's detention cells and interrogation was underway. Explosive materials to create bombs were also confiscated in the arrest.

Central Sulawesi recently witnessed a string of terrorism-related violence targeting police, carried out by members of radical groups which are still active around the province's city of Poso.

Indonesian police killed Santoso, leader of radical Eastern Indonesia Mujahidin after months of joint operation around the group’s hideout in a Poso's mountainous area in July 2016.

The group was identified of being involved in activities to send Indonesian militants to Syria and Iraq to join the self-claimed Islamic State (IS).-VNA
