Indonesian presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, leader of the Gerindra (Great Indonesia Movement) party, on July 22 announced that he and his running mate Hatta Rajasa withdraw from the election process, claiming that the poll was not fair and transparent.

Prabowo said in his July 22 statement that there was massive, organised and systematic cheating in the July 9 election.

Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa also asked their staff to end their engagement in vote counting process at the Elections Committee (KPU), while rejecting all legal conclusions related to the poll given by the committee, said the statement.

The KPU is schedule to announce the election’s official results on July 22.

Earlier, both Prabowo and his rival, Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo claimed victory in the election and called for their supporters and volunteers to closely watch the transport of ballots from voting points to KPU until the committee announces the official results.-VNA
