The number of f oreign tourist coming into Indonesia in June this year reached a record of 789,594, an increase of 13.52 percent.

According to Indonesia’s Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), this is the highest monthly figure in the country’s history. The previous highest figure was recorded in December 2012 when the number of foreign arrivals reached 766,966.

Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu said the result is an optimistic signal for the country’s tourism sector which is striving to realise the target of attracting 8.6 million foreign arrivals in 2013.

At present, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Australia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Germany and Middle East are focus markets of Indonesia’s tourism industry.

In total, the number of foreign visitors to Indonesia in the first half of 2013 grew by 7.18 percent to 4.15 million from 3.87 million in the same period last year, the BPS said.-VNA
