Indonesia and the Republic of Korea (RoK) have agreed to strengthen transport cooperation via the signing of a memorandum of understanding in the coming time.

Indonesian Deputy Transportation Minister Bambang Susantono and Rok Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation Hyung Koo Yeo reached the consensus at a recent meeting in Seoul.

They discussed the joint development of transport infrastructure, especially railways and the application of information technology (IP) along the way.

Susantono noted that this can be realised through government-to-government, business-to-business, and research institution-to-research institution schemes.

Indonesia plans to follow the RoK in IT development, as the country has vast experience in overcoming its transport problems, which are similar to those currently faced by Indonesia.

The RoK government has successfully developed IT-based smart cities through inter-sectoral coordination between research institutions and the private sector.-VNA
