Indonesia has called on the Federation of Cocoa Commerce (FCC) to lower import duties on its cocoa products in Europe.
Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla asked for a non-discriminatory treatment for Indonesian cocoa products on May 14, which are currently levied with import duties of 5-6 percent while those from Africa have tax exemptions.
Kalla is in London for the FCC annual conference on May 15.
According to him, cocoa is Indonesia’s third largest currency earner, behind palm oil and rubber.
Indonesia is currently the third largest cocoa producer after the Ivory Coast and Ghana with an annual production of 750,000 tonnes. The nation aims to augment production by 50 percent for exports in 2020.-VNA
