Indonesia sees chance to develop auto industry in ASEAN market

The Indonesian government has expected that its auto industry will develop faster when the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) kicks off next year.
The Indonesian government has expected that its auto industry will develop faster when the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) kicks off next year.

According to Indonesian Industry Minister MS Hidayat, the AEC will be an opportunity for the domestic automotive industry to develop and its competitiveness has been on the rise as huge investment flew in the last two years.

The minister promised that the government will support the industry’s efforts to raise its competitiveness.

Statistics from the Indonesian Industry Ministry show that the largest economy in Southeast Asia manufactured 1.2 million cars last year thanks to a network of over 1,500 factories producing components for the automotive industry. It expects to export 200,000 cars this year.

The country’s automotive industry ranks the second, after Thailand , in the region.-VNA
