Hanoi (VNA) - Indonesia on June 9 reported the highest number of new COVID-19 infections on a single day in the past three months.

The Southeast Asian nation detected 7,725 new cases and 170 fatalities on the day, bringing the national count to 1.87 million and 52,162, respectively. 

Also on June 9, the Ministry of Health of Singapore announced that it has found the Delta variant of the coronavirus, first detected in India, which is the most prevalent among local cases of variants of concern (VoCs).

There were 449 local cases with VoCs as of May 31, of which 428 were infected with the Delta variant, and nine with the Beta variant, first identified in South Africa, the mnistry said in an emailed statement.

Singapore first reported the presence of the Delta variant locally in early May.

The country has reported more than 62,000 COVID-19 cases in total, with 34 deaths./.
