Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesian police destroyed an illegal drug ring and seized 288kg of crystal methamphetamine in the capital city of Jakarta on January 30.
Speaking at a press conference at the scene, Jakarta Police Chief Insp. General Nana Sudjana said three suspects were killed in a shootout at a toll road in West Jakarta.
Sudjana added that the drugs, valued up to 864 billion rupiah (63 million USD), was hidden in hundreds of plastic meal boxes. The haul was being transported from Merak port in Indonesia’s Banten province to Jakarta.
It is one of the largest drug trafficking cases discovered in Indonesia. One month earlier, Indonesian police confiscated 210kg of crystal meth en route from Sumatra island to Jakarta./.
