Indonesia, Singapore sign defence, green energy agreements

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Jakarta on November 6 to discuss defence and green energy agreements.

Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Jakarta on November 6 to discuss defence and green energy agreements.

This marked Prime Minister Wong's first official visit to Indonesia since President Subianto assumed office on October 20.

The President expressed his hope that this visit would further strengthen cooperation between the two countries, particularly in strategic and mutually beneficial areas.

During the meeting, the leaders discussed enhancing cooperation in various fields, including green energy, defense, and Singaporean investment in Indonesia's new capital, Nusantara.

Both sides signed memoranda of understanding on defence and green energy cooperation, and agreed to promote electricity exports from Indonesia to Singapore and the construction of submarine cables to facilitate green energy exchange.

At a joint press conference with Wong, Subianto praised Singapore as an important partner for Indonesia, emphasizing the close cooperation between the two countries both bilaterally and within the ASEAN framework. He added that both sides share similar views on many issues, especially ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

For his part, Wong noted the significance of his visit, as it marked his first official visit to Indonesia as Prime Minister. He expressed his honour at being President Subianto's first state guest./.
