Indonesia's House of Representatives will establish a centre to support and strengthen the implementation of its national legal building program.

Speaking at a press conference on August 13, Speaker of the House of Representatives Marzuki Alie said the centre will maintain databases aiding lawmakers in their legislative work.

The House is currently considering the approval of 23 bills relating to low-cost housing, house renting regulations and the protection of Indonesian labourers working overseas.

The planned centre will help rebuild some of the country’s controversial laws, including the Criminal Code, which is strongly influenced by the Netherlands Indies Criminal Code, Alie said.

The speaker said that the reform of this code would be one of Indonesia’s greatest achievements.-VNA
