Jakarta (VNA) - A total of 30 people have been harmed after breathing air containing toxic gas spread from a crater of Mount Ijen volcano in East Java province of western Indonesia.

Local authorities said on March 22 that as many as 200 people in Kalianyar village of Bondowoso district were evacuated to safe places.

Among the affected persons living in the slope of the Mount, two have been shifted to a hospital, 17 are being treated in local health clinics, and the others have been allowed to return home.

The country’s disaster management agency said the volcano erupted at 7.30pm of March 21.

Mount Ijen of 2,444 meters high is one of the 129 active volcanoes in Indonesia. It last erupted in 1999.-VNA
