Indonesia and the US are actively preparing for activities in the framework of a regional anti-terrorism infinitive in which they are co-hosts.

Indonesian Defence Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro recently said that Indonesia and the US will jointly hold a 10-day anti-terrorism exercise in the former’s West Java province in September.

The event is expected to draw 1,800 troops from 18 countries, including 10 ASEAN member countries and their dialogue partners, namely the US , Russia , India , Australia , New Zealand , the Republic of Korea , China and Japan .

Yusgiantoro told the press on the sidelines of the 12 th Asia Security Summit or Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, which took place from May 31 to June 2, that military ties between Indonesia and the US have strongly developed in recent years and Jakarta is willing to upgrade its military relations with the US and consider purchasing American weapons to serve its military modernisation programme.

He added that a high-level US delegation will arrive in Jakarta to discuss the weapon provision for Indonesia.-VNA
