Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia wants to host the 2032 Olympic Games, unveiled Erick Thohir, President of the Indonesia Asian Games (ASIAD) Organising Committee on May 28.
Thohir said International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach will visit Jakarta for the ASIAD’s closing ceremony on September 2, and it will be an opportunity for Indonesia to propose for the hosting of the 2032 Olympic Games, following the 2024 Olympics in Paris (France) and 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles (the US).
Thohir also explained the economic impacts, technical management, plans for transport, security and budget for the ASIAD alongside plans for the torch relay, opening and closing ceremony.
The 18th Asian Games (ASIAD 18), the largest sport event in the region, will take place in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from August 18 to September 2. The Games is expected to draw 15,000 athletes and coaches from 45 national sport delegations competing in 40 sports, 67 disciplines and 463 events.
Up to 30,000 security staff will be deployed to maintain security and prevent the worst cases during the event. Some 300 CCTV units using face-recognition technology will be added to a total of 6,000 units already in operation in Jakarta.
More than 200 Vietnamese athletes will take part in the Games. They will compete in 20 sports in the ASIAD, including football, karate, wushu and pencak silat.-VNA
