
Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia’s 12initiatives in information and communication technology won awards from theUnited Nations during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum2018 in Geneva, according to the Antara news agency.
The Indonesia-based news agency reported onMarch 22 that the awards were given to Indonesian Ambassador to the UN HasanKleib by the UN’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU) during the WSIS2018 Forum. The event took place in Geneva, Switzerland from March 19-23.
Receiving the awards, Kleib said he hopes thatthey would boost the development of IT in Indonesia. "In 2017, Indonesiahad received four awards, and this year, we won 12 of them. This is incrediblethat our innovation in information and communication technology has been highlylauded by the UN," Kleib remarked.
As a forum for sharing updates and innovation oninformation and communication technology, the WSIS has regularly awardedinitiatives in 18 categories. Before receiving the awards, these initiatives hadbeen carefully reviewed by experts from around the world.
For the "Government Portal for ViralablePublic Policy Communication" category, the award was presented to the"Indonesiabaik.id" website, Antara said.
The other awards are from the categories ofE-Health, E-Employment, E-Agriculture, Capacity Building, Access to Information& Knowledge, Information & Communication Infrastructure, as well as theRole of Government and All Stakeholders in the Promotion of ICTs forDevelopment.
In the past years, the UN had awarded prizes at theWSIS to all its members from around the world in a bid to support the programmesto accelerate the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals.-VNA
