Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo has chosen Ma'ruf Amin, head of the Indonesian Ulema Council, as his running mate for the presidential election slated for April 2019.

Speaking to the media in Jakarta on August 9, Widodo said all nine political parties have agreed with the decision.

He described 75-year-old Ma'ruf Amin as a "wise political figure".

Widodo and Amin will formally register to the Election Commission on August 10.

Earlier on June 27, Indonesia held local elections in 39 cities, 17 provinces and 115 districts. The outcomes are yet to be announced.-VNA
