Indonesia’s President-elect Joko Widodo held a meeting with senior military and security officers on October 22 to discuss pressing issues relating to the country’s security, sovereignty and the modernisation of the military.

He gave special attention to the implementation of the previous government’s weaponry procurement programme worth 12.5 billion USD. The programme, designed for the 2010-2015 period, was launched in 2010.

Commander-in-Chief of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), General Moeldoko said the military and weaponry modernisation programme, under close supervision of the Defence Industrial Policy Committee (KKIP), is progressing as planned.

It is projected to be fulfilled in 2019, six years earlier than scheduled.-VNA
