Indonesian President visits Singapore

Indonesian President Joko Widodo will pay a visit to Singapore on October 8-9 and attend a Leaders’ Retreat with his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong, the Singaporean Prime Minister’s Office has announced.

Hanoi (VNA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodowill pay a visit to Singapore on October 8-9 and attend a Leaders’ Retreat withhis Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong, the Singaporean Prime Minister’sOffice has announced.

This will be the fourth Retreatbetween the two leaders and the first since the Indonesian President’sre-election in May.

They will take stock of progressin bilateral cooperation and follow up on discussions from their previousLeaders’ Retreat  which was held in Baliin October 2018.

Both sides will explore ways toenhance bilateral ties in areas of mutual interest, across economic,socio-cultural and security spheres.

The two leaders will also witnessthe signing of an agreement between Indonesia and Singapore on Electronic DataExchange to Facilitate and Secure Trade, as well as a Memorandum ofUnderstanding between the national archives of both countries.

As of late 2018, Singapore was the third largest trade partner ofIndonesia while Indonesia was the sixth largest trade partner of Singapore.

On October 11, 2018, Widodo and Lee signed a bilateralinvestment agreement and four memoranda of understanding on industry, thusprotecting investors’ interests and strengthening bilateral economic ties./.
