Intel opens biggest micro-chip plant in Vietnam

The US-based Intel group officially inaugurated a micro-chip factory in Ho Chi Minh City ’s Hi-tech Zone on October 29, its biggest in the world and the first semiconductor plant in Vietnam .
The US-based Intel group officially inaugurated a micro-chip factory in Ho Chi Minh City ’s Hi-tech Zone on October 29, its biggest in the world and the first semiconductor plant in Vietnam .

The 1-billion USD project started operating earlier this year, making chips for laptops and other mobile devices. It is expected to produce 820 million units per year.

After stressing the significance of the project, which will help Vietnam to carry out its National Strategy on Information Technology Development up to 2020, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai praised Intel’s commitment to helping the Vietnamese Government to enhance education and training.

Intel’s president and CEO Paul Otellini re-affirmed the group’s long-term plans in Vietnam . He added that Intel had also made a deal with several Vietnamese government agencies to upgrade e-government and personal computer and broadband networks. Intel is also helping Vietnam to increase growth and improve its competitiveness./.
