The IT chip maker Intel Products Vietnam Ltd hosted a fair at the Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Park (SHTP) on June 25 to seek more local suppliers to support its operations.

The move is part of Intel’s efforts to ease its dependency on imported materials.

The fair attracted the participation of 54 Vietnamese enterprises, operating in the fields of packing materials, repair services, mechanics and spare parts.

Speaking at the fair, Intel Products Vietnam General Manager Sherry Boger said that the company is not just using the event to find qualified domestic suppliers, but also as a chance to share its supplier selection procedures and expectations.

The event is designed to inform local enterprises about Intel’s chip assembling and verifying process and its manufacturing plans, she added.

At present, 18 domestic enterprises are supplying 10 percent of materials and services to the chip maker.
In order to increase the percentage of locally made materials for its products, Intel Vietnam needs a greater number of Vietnamese businesses to participate in material supply chains for its plants.-VNA
