Hanoi (VNA) – The 27th International Biology Olympiad has wrapped up in Hanoi after a week with numerous activities.

At the closing ceremony on July 23, the organising board presented 26 gold medals, 51 silvers and 74 bronzes.

All four members of the Vietnamese team won medals, with the only gold went to Vu Thi Chinh from the High School for the Gifted of the National University of Hanoi. The other three brought home one silver and two bronzes.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said the contestants have a passion for science, the will to overcome challenges and the commitment to strive for a better future. They are also the goodwill ambassadors for peace, friendship and future of the world.

The 27th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) kicked off in Hanoi on July 17, drawing 264 students and 238 teachers from 71 nations and territories.

The IBO was first organised in 1990. Vietnam has participated in the IBO since 1996. After 20 years of engagement, Vietnamese students brought home 56 medals, including one gold, 10 silvers, 45 bronzes and two certificates of merit.-VNA
