Officials and experts will discuss a wide range ofissues at the four-day event, including assessing the implementation ofresolutions on combating crime, exchanging experiences in preventingtransnational crime and setting orientations for Interpol’s future, inline with globalisation and international integration.
The event will also ratify important resolutions on police cooperation and elect the organisation’s Executive Committee.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen XuanPhuc said the Vietnamese Government always attaches special importanceto working with Interpol.
He also said located in the centralregion of Asia and the Pacific, Vietnam is directly affected by thecomplicated crimes that originate from countries in the region andacross the world.
“We are aware that transnational crimeprevention requires concerted efforts among countries and global policecooperation needs to be strengthened through Interpol to better fightthese crimes”, the deputy PM said.
InterpolPresident Khoo Boon Hui said the General Assembly was an opportunity tocollectively review the security landscape and adopt a law enforcementapproach that considers both national and global perspectives.
“Criminalsare quick to take advantage of rapid technological developments and theprevalence of the Internet, and we should anticipate cybercrime to growin scale, sophistication and impact,” he said.
The President also said he was impressed by the development of Vietnam’s security forces.
Vietnam’s first hosting of a general assembly comes 20 years after it became the 156 th Interpol member./.
