Jointly organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development(MARD), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) andthe UK-based International Institute for Environment and Development(IIED), the four-day conference focused discussion on sharingexperiences of the implementation of community-based disaster managementand climate change adaptation of countries and organisations.
Apart from discussing and sharing knowledge of community-basedadaptation (CBA) planning, participants also deliberated ways to attractand utilise resources reasonably, to obtain more support for thecommunity.
According to Special Representative ofthe United Nations Secretary General, Margreta Wahltrom, disasterprevention is a challenge for the development process of any country inthe world.
Climate change adaptation to improveliving conditions and lessen damages depends on the policies of eachcountry, she said.
Deputy Minister of MoNRETran Hong Ha said the conference provided a forum for Vietnamese andinternational managers, social organisations and scientists to seekmeasures to ultimately enhance capacity and improve the livelihoods ofsome of the most vulnerable groups in developing countries.
Danish Ambassador to Vietnam and Laos John Nielsen said Denmark iswilling to share its experiences in adapting to climate change based oncommunity with Vietnam.-VNA
