The 6 th International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation to Climate Change (CBA6) opened in Hanoi on April 19.
Jointly organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) and the UK-based International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the four-day conference focused discussion on sharing experiences of the implementation of community-based disaster management and climate change adaptation of countries and organisations.
Apart from discussing and sharing knowledge of community-based adaptation (CBA) planning, participants also deliberated ways to attract and utilise resources reasonably, to obtain more support for the community.
According to Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General, Margreta Wahltrom, disaster prevention is a challenge for the development process of any country in the world.
Climate change adaptation to improve living conditions and lessen damages depends on the policies of each country, she said.
Deputy Minister of MoNRE Tran Hong Ha said the conference provided a forum for Vietnamese and international managers, social organisations and scientists to seek measures to ultimately enhance capacity and improve the livelihoods of some of the most vulnerable groups in developing countries.
Danish Ambassador to Vietnam and Laos John Nielsen said Denmark is willing to share its experiences in adapting to climate change based on community with Vietnam.-VNA
