Several international organisations and foreign countries have voiced support for people in the localities that were hardest hit by typhoon Ketsana, said the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) on October 1.

The Swiss Red Cross will provide 80,000 USD for Vietnamese storm victims while Luxemburg pledged an aid of 50,000 EUR (72,600 USD).

The German government has decided to provide 300,000 EUR (436,000 USD) while the Australian government affirmed it will stand ready to help Vietnam recover from the natural disaster.

Earlier, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies handed over 300,000 USD to the VRC to buy food, medicine, clean water and other necessaries for the storm-hit population.

The Swiss Red Cross also provided 50,000 USD and 100 tonnes of rice in support of the two provinces hardest hit by typhoon Koppu.

At present, the VRC is readying two rescue teams to enter central localities, including Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang , Quang Nam and Quang Ngai.

The organisation is also coordinating with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to assess losses and the needs of flood-prone localities in order to release an appeal for an international relief funding of 4 million USD./.
