The 132 nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-132) in Hanoi will be a success and contribute substantially to the implementation of the union’s common goals, stated Chairman of Cambodia’s National Assembly Heng Samrin.
The Cambodian top legislator, who is in Hanoi to attend the IPU-132, was received by Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and State President Truong Tan Sang in separate meetings on March 28.
He expressed his delight at the achievements Vietnam has gained during its Doi Moi (Renewal) process, and thanked the country for helping Cambodia fight against the genocidal regime and rebuild its country.
The Vietnamese leaders appreciated the support of the Cambodian NA and the Chairman to the Vietnamese NA’s hosting of the IPU-132, affirming that it is one of the biggest diplomatic events and has great significance to Vietnam.
Speaking of the results of the two legislative bodies’ cooperation, they confirmed Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy of attaching importance to and prioritise consolidating and enhancing the good neighbourliness, time-honoured friendship and comprehensive collaboration with Cambodia for each country’s prosperity and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong suggested the two NAs intensify their supervision over the Governments’ operations to ensure the efficient implementation of signed agreements.-VNA
