Hanoi (VNA)Speaker of the Parliament of Iran Ali Ardeshir Larijani on April 18 concluded his official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

While in Vietnam, Speaker Ali Ardeshir Larijani held talks with National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; paid courtesy visits to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; and met with Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man.

The Speaker received leaders of the Vietnam-Iran Friendship Association and attended the Vietnam-Iran Business Forum. On this occasion, he also laid a wreath in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum, and visited Uncle Ho’s stilt house and several historical and cultural relic sites.

During the talks and meetings with the Vietnamese leaders, the two sides discussed and agreed on a wide range of measures to step up cooperation in the fields of agriculture, fishery, energy, mining, oil and gas, telecommunications and banking.

The two sides agreed to further boost cooperation in spheres in which Iran has potential such as pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, banking, tourism-culture, broadcasting and exchange of lecturers and students.

Regarding parliamentary cooperation, the two sides consented to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially between the parliaments’ committees to share experiences in legislation and supervision.

The two sides agreed to strengthen the role of supervision and accelerate the effective implementation of deals and agreements signed between the two nations, including those reached by the Inter-governmental Committee of Vietnam and Iran.

They also concurred to coordinate together more closely at regional and international forums, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The Speaker’s successful visit contributed to the enhancement and development of friendship and cooperation between the Vietnamese and Iranian people.-VNA
