Human resource training in the information technology (IT) sector needs a breakthrough to catch up with development trends, deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has said.

In order to do so, the deputy PM asked the Ministry of Information and Communication (MoIC) to identify a qualified domestic business to cooperate with foreign partners to set up a joint venture to provide IT human resource training.

At a national conference on Vietnam’s information and communications technology (ICT) in 2009, which opened on Nov. 26, Deputy PM Nhan also requested that the MoIC assemble an IT workforce from foreign countries to promote domestic human resources training.

The ministry needs to popularise the brand names of leading domestic IT firms within foreign countries, he added.

In 2009, the government issued a plan to apply IT to State-run agencies, helping to reduce administrative procedures and also guidelines on how to manage State-funded IT issues, deputy PM Nhan said.

He added that the Prime Minister also issued a decision to develop IT human resources from now through 2015 with a vision to 2020. Additionally, the MoIC is preparing a roadmap to make Vietnam an IT power by 2020.

Participants in the conference discussed policies and solutions to boost ICT sector development, especially IT services in Vietnam./.
