Jakarta governor Joko Widodo has won the Indonesian presidential election with 53.15 percent of the vote, the General Elections Commission (KPU) announced on July 22.

The reform-minded governor gained the victory over leader of the Gerindra (Great Indonesia Movement) party Prabowo Subianto who received 46.85 percent of the vote.

Over 70 percent of Indonesians voted in the July 9 election, the third of its kind since the country’s political reform that started in 1998.-VNA
