The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Da Nang municipal Transport Department have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on providing technical assistance for a project to improve urban transportation in the central city.

The two-million USD project aims to establish an intelligent transport system, helping to reduce congestion which is a thorny issue of major cities in Vietnam.

Under the project, the Japanese Government will help Da Nang improve public transport services through the application of information and communication technology (ICT), intelligent car parking system, global positioning system (GPS) and geographic information system (GIS).

The project is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2013 and complete in late 2015.-VNA
