Tokyo (VNA) –
Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu on April 14 affirmed that his country highly values the leadership by Vietnam during the ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020.

Speaking at a press conference in Tokyo, Motegi said Japan took note of Vietnam's proactive call on ASEAN member states to cope with the COVID-19 and organising an online special ASEAN+3 summit on responding to the pandemic.

The videoconference is scheduled to take place on April 14 afternoon with the participation of leaders from the 10 ASEAN member nations and the bloc’s three partners, namely China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.

According to Motegi, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will attend the event.
He added that Japan will discuss measures to contain the spread of the pandemic and enhance international cooperation and joint actions in fiscal and monetary policies to boost economy in countries and support developing ones./.
