Japan, Malaysia agree on promoting regional integration

Speaking at a press conference after the two PMs’ talks the same day, Yukio Hatoyama confirmed to promote regional cooperation toward realisation of the concept of an East Asian community.
Meanwhile, Najib Abdul Razak, who also concurrently serves as finance minister, said at the same press conference that he hoped Japanese companies would boost their investment in the Malaysian market and that bilateral trade would rebound from the recent dip caused by the global economic slump.
Earlier the two sides signed a joint initiative on the environment and energy, which includes about 20 specific programmes. Accordingly, Japan will take advantage of its related technologies and help Malaysia establish recycling systems, develop bioethanol and other renewable resources, and conserve biodiversity./.
