Japan’s Juki Corp is relocating production lines for key components of industrial sewing machines to its plant in Ho Chi Minh City as part of its efforts to cut costs.

Accordingly, all the production equipment from four factories - the Juki Miyazaki Seimitsu Corp., the Juki Matsue Corp.'s Daito plant and two Juki Seimitsu Corp. plants - will be moved to Vietnam during the 2009 fiscal year.

The relocation of the production lines will be completed by the end of this month.

Accompanying the move, Juki will increase the Vietnamese plant's workforce by around 40 percent to 1,000. As a result, in the 2010 fiscal year, the value of industrial sewing machine parts made in Vietnam will jump to 700 million JPY.

The corporation has already moved assembly operations for industrial sewing machines to two plants in China and is increasing the procurement of parts from Chinese firms.

According to the Nikkei daily, with the sewing industry expected to grow in China , India and other developing countries, Juki will continue to move production lines to China and Vietnam to cut costs./.
