Tokyo (VNA) – Japan supports ASEAN’s efforts, including the ‘Five-Point Consensus’ which aims to resolve the situation in Myanmar, and its prompt implementation, according to Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.

In regards to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Japanese PM on October 27 underlined that Japan fully backs equitable, safe, effective and qualified access to vaccine.

It also strongly supports the ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases (ACPHEED) through the building of a detailed outline, along with training and sending of experts via the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

To support the regional economic recovery, Kishida said Japan is providing near-zero interest loans to ASEAN nations and increase infrastructure investment via the Initiative on Overseas Loan and Investment for ASEAN.

Within the framework of the ASEAN-Japan Economic Resilience Action Plan, projects are being sped up, he said particular those promote digital transformation in Asia and recovery of supply chain in ASEAN.

The Japanese PM also welcomed the expansion of the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) in the fight against COVID-19./.
