HCM City (VNA) - Japan topped the medal table of the Asian Junior Athletics Championships, which concluded on June 6 in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Japanese won 13 gold, 10 silver and four bronze medals. China finished second with 11 golds and India in third place with seven gold medals.

Vietnam finished seventh with two golds, three silvers and two bronzes.

The 17th Asian Junior Athletics Championships 2016 was held at the Thong Nhat Stadium in HCM City from June 3-6.

The event featured about 600 young athletes and coaches from 40 countries and territories, including Qatar, Japan, China, Iraq, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.

The biennial event was also an opportunity for young Vietnamese athletes to prepare for the Junior Olympics.

Vietnam ranked 10th out of the 23 nations and territories competing in the 16th Asian Junior Athletics Championships 2014, which took place in Taiwan (China).-VNA
