Japanese businesses are sustainably developing the industry and service sectors in the southern province of Binh Duong, Chairman of the Binh Duong People’s Committee Le Thanh Cung has stated.

Binh Duong is known as a leading locality in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). In the first week of September alone, up to 23 FDI projects were licensed, 12 of which are invested in by Japan.

At present, Japanese firms are operating in numerous fields in Binh Duong such as producing electronic components, industrial products, medical devices and stationery.

While the Japanese Tokyu Corporation has poured 1.2 billion USD into a property project in the Binh Duong New City, its joint venture with the Vietnamese Becamex IDC Corporation, Becamex-Tokyu Co. Ltd., is to also inaugurate a public transport bus service. This aims to improve transport in Binh Duong New City and connect it with provinces and cities in the southeastern region.

A report of the provincial People’s Committee said that 170 Japanese projects in the province, worth 3.2 billion USD, have been proving greatly efficient. A number of them are environmental projects financed by Japan’s official development assistance (ODA).

For example, a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 17,650 cubic metres per day became operational in May. Its total investment of nearly 2 trillion VND (9.8 billion JPY) in the first phase is partly funded by ODA from Japan. The plant treats sewage for 13,000 households in the province’s Thu Dau Mot city, thus improving the water environment in the south of Binh Duong and locals’ living conditions.-VNA
