A delegation of 19 Japanese firms held one-on-one meetings with about 100 local enterprises in HCM City on Nov. 22 seeking new opportunities to cooperate and expand their businesses.
The delegation comprised firms in many sectors and industries including software, seafood feed, semiconductor and industrial machines.
Vo Tan Thanh, director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (VCCI) HCM City chapter, said Japan saw Vietnam as a potential market and wanted to establish long-term investment and trade ties.
Since 1992, Japan has been one of Vietnam 's top trade partners and provided nearly 16 billion USD in ODA to the country. Japan is the second largest import market for Vietnamese products, after the United States . It also ranked third out of 89 foreign investors in Vietnam , Thanh said.
Nishiyama Akira, chairman of the Japan Business Support Organisation (BSO) said Nov. 22's meetings sought to exchange information on economic policies followed by both countries and find ways to help businesses expand their export markets.
He hoped the cooperation between Japan and Vietnam would increase in the coming years.
His organisation would help businesses seeking market information and partner information, Akira said.
A business cooperation agreement was also signed in the day by Dong Tam Joint Stock Co with Japan 's TAK Manufacturing Ltd Co.
