Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) seesthe visit to Indonesia by Japan’s Emperor Naruhito “a golden opportunity” toattract Japanese investment into the country.

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako are making a State visit to Indonesia from June 17 - 23, the emperor's first official goodwill visit abroad since his ascension to thethrone in 2019.

Apindochairwoman Shinta Kamdani said that Indonesia should use this chance to showJapanese investors its investment climate.

Japan is currently Indonesia’s fourth-largest investor with Japanese direct investment in Indonesia reaching 1 billion USD inthe first three months of 2023.

Accordingto Shinta, Indonesia is mostly trading unprocessed commodities with Japan despitethe two countries complementing one another from an economic standpoint.

Thereis still huge room for a partnership in industrial and added-value productsupply chains.

She added that Indonesian government also needs touse the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) to developindustries other than automotive, including machinery and chemicals.

Indonesia’s exports to Japan and Japanese investment per capitain the country still fall behind Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia, which have aneconomic partnership agreement with Japan./.
