Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan on September 17 announced his new 18-member Cabinet.
Seiji Maehara, who had been Transport Minister, became Foreign Minister, replacing Katsuya Okada, however Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda retained his job.
Kan has also held on to Yoshito Sengoku as Chief Cabinet Secretary.
Among the new faces, the former Governor of Tottori, Yoshihiro Katayama, who is also professor at Keio University, has become Internal Affairs Minister and Akihiro Ohata, a member of the Democratic Party of Japan in the lower house, will be the Minister responsible for trade and industry issues, according to the Kyodo News agency.
Banri Kaieda is now responsible for economic and fiscal policy, while Sumio Mabuchi, the Senior Deputy Minister for land, infrastructure, transport and tourism, will also be promoted to take over the ministry.
Many remain in Kan 's cabinet including Defense Minister Toshimi Kitazawa, Financial Services Minister Shozaburo Jimi, a member of the People's New Party, and Renho, the State minister for administrative reform.
The new Cabinet will be formally inaugurated at the Imperial Palace later in the day and will convene its first meeting to discuss future policies./.
