Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on July 26, beginning his two-day official visit to the Philippines at the invitation of President Benigno Aquino III.

This is the last leg of Abe's three-Asian-nation tour. Earlier, he visited Malaysia and Singapore .

PM Abe is expected meet President Benigno Aquino III on July 27 to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional issues, and ways to further advance the Strategic Partnership between the Philippines and Japan .

Spokesman of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Raul Hernandez said that the territorial disputes on the East Sea will be "part and parcel of regional issues" during the meeting between the two leaders.

The Philippines attaches importance to the Japanese PM’s visit as it elevates the Philippines-Japan strategic partnership to an even higher plane of vigor, dynamism and relevance.

Japan is one of only two strategic partners of the Philippines . In 2012, Japan was the Philippines’ number one trade partner and provider of official development assistance as well as the second major source of approved investments and third source of tourist arrivals.-VNA
