The decision was made during a special session held after the 150-day parliamentary session ended on June 16.
The ruling Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) and the main opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) are expected to announce their election manifestos on June 17.
In the upcoming election, the DPJ needs a majority in the Upper House to pass new laws and policies.
Also on June 16, PM Kan overcame a vote of no-confidence filed by the opposition LDP at a plenary session of the Lower House with 153 for and 315 against.
The Bank of Japan (BOJ) said on June 15 that Japan ’s economy is showing further signs of recovery as the continued increase in production output and exports meets the rising demand from overseas./.
