JICA will assist Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital and its two satellite facilities in installing the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) which makes it easier for them to share images from a distance.
The help is provided under the pilot project on telemedicine cooperation using information-communication technology (ICT), which was signed between the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Bach Mai Hospital on July 31.
The agency will also help train medical staff on operating the system which allows the diagnostic imaging department and other departments of Bach Mai Hospital as well as between the hospital and its satellite hospitals to easily share CT images, X-ray films and MRI in real time.
Mori Mutsuya, JICA chief representative in Vietnam said he hopes the system will help mitigate overload in central hospitals, reducing cost of travelling for patients, and improving the diagnosis quality of local hospitals.
Over the course of 20 years providing help to Vietnam’s health sector, this is the first project of JICA dealing with IT application in health treatment, which is part of the agency’s new plan to bring technology developed by Japan’s small and medium-sized enterprises to developing countries./.
