Around 100 works of journalism covering eight categories were awarded national prizes by the Vietnam Journalists Association on June 21.

The two highest honours went to journalists from Voice of Vietnam for their series on the nation's sovereignty over Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagos and a programme from Vietnam Television (VTV)'s documentary centre about the stories behind the construction and maintenance of the late President Ho Chi Minh's statue in Moscow .

The award ceremony was broadcast live nationwide and attracted leaders, including National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Hung stressed that the nation's journalists and reporters must continue fostering their skills,Tthus contributing to the country's socio-economic development and increasing their professionalism in the globalised context.

Speaking as a recipient of Prize B for one of his works as a non-professional journalist, former deputy PM Vu Khoan said he hopes journalists nationwide will keep their passions alive in dealing with important issues that help the country and its people.

More than 1,200 entries were sent from 117 media organisations this year. Organisers said that next year there will be a separate category for online media.-VNA
