Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev was presented with an honorary doctorate diploma from Vietnam National University – Hanoi (VNU - Hanoi ) at a meeting with its students and lecturers on Nov. 1.

The award recognised his contributions to strengthening and developing cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and Kazakhstan .

Speaking at the event, President Nazarbayev said that Vietnam and Kazakhstan’s development strategies share similarities, with priorities on ensuring political stability, national defence, independence and territorial integrity, integration and open-door policies to promote the countries’ socio-economic development processes.

President Nazarbayev said he hoped Vietnam and Kazakhstan would continue expanding cooperation in education, especially tertiary education, promoting the exchange of students and lecturers and opening training courses for experts in science and technology and other fields.

Prof. Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan, VNU - Hanoi Director, said that President Nazarbayev played an important role in developing friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of tertiary education, science and technology.

Nhuan said he hoped the positive outcomes of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and VNU - Hanoi and Kazakhstan’s prestigious academic establishments in particular, would serve as a solid foundation to uplift the two countries’ cooperation and traditional friendship to a new height, including the educational sector in which the VNU – Hanoi plays an important role.

The honorary doctorate is a noble award to leading scientists, distinguished politicians and eminent social activists who make special contributions to the development of VNU - Hanoi. /.
