The Cambodian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has announced that it will add the 1975-1979 Khmer Rouge era in the country’s high school curricula.

The ministry has been quoted by Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Cambodia as saying that the Khmer Rouge genocide will be taught for ninth to 12 th graders in order to help young Cambodians better understand the darkest stage of the country’s history.

It has printed 500,000 copies of textbook on the murderous Khmer Rouge regime which are being delivered to 1,300 schools nationwide in the 2009-2010 academic year.

According to statistics, the Khmer Rouge regime killed up to 2 million Cambodian people during its 1975-1979 rule./.
