The South-Western Region Steering Committee on Nov. 4 met with Khmer Theravada dignitaries on the occasion of the Okombok (moon) festival which falls on the 15 th day of the tenth lunar month.

At the meeting, which took place in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho , the committee’s representatives appraised efforts by buddhists and Khmer ethnic people in upholding solidarity, boosting production and effectively executing guidelines and policies of the Party and State.

Khmer Theravada Buddhists promised to encourage Khmer people to actively participate in revolutionary movements in the locality, further promote the great national unity, fight against hostile forces’ plots of sabotage and accelerate production, contributing to building a prosperous region.

The south-western region is home to 1.3 million Khmer people, accounting for 8 percent of the region’s population. /.
