Party General Secretary andNational Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong made the request at aworking session with the provincial leaders on April 17 during hisworking trip to the Central Highlands provinces from April 16-17.
“Kon Tum should make the best use of its potentials and strengths innatural resources, land and forests as well as develop industrial treeswith high economic values,” he said.
The Partyleader also urged the province to address thoroughly vital issues forlocalities, ensure sufficient cultivation land for local people, payattention to irrigation development, forestation and poverty reduction,narrow development gaps, and improve the intellectual standards of thepeople.
While emphasising the strategic position indefence and security of the Central Highlands in general and Kon Tumprovince in particular, Trong expressed his wish that the Partycommittees at all levels, authorities and people in the province willalways promote solidarity and unanimity among people, effectively carryout ethnic, religious and mass mobilisation activities, maintainstability at grassroots units, and shatter all sabotage schemes ofhostile forces.
According to Secretary of theprovincial Party Committee Ha Ban, despite being a border mountainouslocality with a lot of difficulties, Kon Tum province has recordedachievements in socio-economic development and improving people’s livingstandards, with per-capita income reaching over 13 million VND per yearand export turnover increasing to nearly 60 million USD.
The province’s economic growth reached a record high over the past 10years and its State budget collection exceeded 1.3 trillion VND.
Preparations for the upcoming 13 th National Assembly and People’sCouncil elections for the 2011-2016 term in Kon Tum province have beenmade in an active and serious manner, Ban said.
