Hanoi (VNA) - The third Mong Ethnic Culture Festival is scheduled for December 24-26 in the northwestern mountainous province of Lai Chau, heard at a press conference on the event held in Hanoi on December 16.

Themed “Preserving and promoting the cultural identity of Mong ethnic minority group – equality, solidarity and development”, the festival is expected to see the participation of artisans, actors, artists, and athletes from 12 Mong ethnic group-inhabited provinces of Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Dien Bien, Dak Lak, Thanh Hoa, and Hoa Binh.

A representative of the organisers said the opening ceremony will take place at the Nhan Dan (People) square in Lai Chau city and be broadcast live on Vietnam Television channel and the television and radio channels of Lai Chau and a number of localities.

The festival features a space displaying cultural and tourism products, a traditional cake pounding contest, a demonstration of the ethnic community’s festivals and cultural rituals, a concert, and a fashion show of traditional Mong costumes.

A famtrip to scope out community-based tourism and eco-tourism in Lai Chau and a conference promoting investment, trade and tourism in the locality will also take place.

According to the Lai Chau provincial People’s Committee, the event will be held in line with the Government’s Resolution 128/NQ-CP issued on October 11 regarding temporary regulations on flexible, safe and effective COVID-19 control./.
