Lang Son (VNA) – The northern mountainous province of Lang Son rationed out government rice to support its needy residents in the period between crops, from April 11-14.

Of the 324.3 tonnes of rice allocated to the province, 65 tonnes went to those in Binh Gia district, 55 tonnes to Cao Loc district and 52 tonnes to Trang Dinh district.

Dang Thi Lan, deputy head of Cao Loc district’s Division of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said 896 disadvantaged households will receive the rice.

The allocated rice would help those households to overcome this difficult time and ensure their social security, Lan said.

Nguyen Xuan Dai, head of the Social Welfare Division under the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, said the province compiled the list of qualified households in advance to ensure rice was allocated to the needy beneficiaries quickly.

In March, the Government asked the Ministry of Finance to allocate more than 1,500 tonnes of rice to Lang Son and neighbouring Dien Bien province to assist the needy residents in the between-crop period.-VNA
