Lao government provides relief aid for workers affected by COVID-19
The Lao government has approved a budget worth 1.5 billion Kip (158,000 USD) to provide relief aid for poor people and 6,000 workers who lost incomes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vientiane (VNA) - The Lao government has approved a budget worth
1.5 billion Kip (158,000 USD) to provide relief aid for poor people and 6,000
workers who lost incomes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Local authorities are collecting data of poor people and those facing difficulties since the second wave of COVID-19 hit the country and seriously affected
the Lao economy. Due to the impacts of lockdown measures, many Lao
workers have lost their jobs, while low-income workers have been experiencing financial
pressure.
The Ministry of Health reported in the past 24 hours, the
country recorded 23 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the national tally to 2,144
cases. Among the new cases, there are three cases of community transmission in
Vientiane province. The remainders are imported cases and quarantined upon
arrival.
The ministry has been concerned about the penetration of new Delta variant, leading to more severe complications.
The National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control called on border localities to
continue increasing patrols, early detection and timely prevention of
illegal immigration and entry to curb the spread of COVID-19./.
