The Ministry of Justice has issued a circular that allows immigrants from Laos, who enter border districts of Vietnam, to register their nationality from next month.
The Circular 03/2015/TT-BTP, dated on April 1, 2015, stipulates that immigrants from Laos, entering border districts of Vietnam, will get permission to stay in the country. These people can register their nationality and get citizenship rights and obligations, if they prove they own property, housing and cultivatable land in their place of residence. They must not be charged with crimes or be in the process of being convicted.
The local people's committees will be in charge of receiving and dealing with the registration documents.
The circular will become effective from May 16./.
